Church Officer Responsibilities

  Responsibilities of Church Officers

Archdale United Methodist Church is a warm-hearted Christian Family where people of all ages are welcomed, invited to a relationship with Jesus Christ and nurtured in the Christian faith through study, fellowship, service and spiritual growth.

The first responsibility of every officer of the church is to Jesus Christ.

Every action of every officer on any church group or committee should, first and foremost, represent the love of Jesus Christ. No matter what the job description or what the office, there is no higher responsibility for church officers than to conduct themselves in a way pleasing to God. This is the first responsibility of every church member, too. But elected officers of the church, because of their positions, bear special responsibility to show Christ's love in their words and their actions.

The second responsibility of every officer of the church is loyalty to The United Methodist Church.

Archdale UMC is not an independent congregation. Officers of the church are obligated to honor the policies and procedures of The United Methodist Church. The practices of United Methodism are given to officers in training events, in publications and job descriptions and through The United Methodist Discipline. Officers of this church are honor-bound to respect and support the policies and guidelines of United Methodism.

For many years, this church has established a reputation of faithfulness to the district, conference and general church in both participation and giving.

The third responsibility of every officer is loyal support to Archdale United Methodist Church.

The Discipline states that people who are elected to be officers should have three signs of faithfulness:

  1. Faithfulness in worship attendance

  2. Faithfulness in regular giving to the church budget

  3. Faithful participation in some area of the ministry of the church.

No one is to be placed in an office who does not meet these three criteria. Once elected, officers of the church have additional responsibilities:

  1. To attend the meetings of any group to which they have been elected

  2. To put the welfare of the church first in all things.

  3. To promote unity and harmony in the congregation.
